So my Topic for this week is Fraternity and Sororities. Helping or Hurting college students Graduate College? I'm Greek and for the most part, I feel as if my Organization has helped me stay on track to accomplish my goal, that being to graduate. However some view GRΣΣK Letter Organizations on college campuses to be a nuisance.
Lets take things way back to the first GRΣΣK Letter Organization. I would bet money that if I walked on to any college campus today no one could tell me the name of the first GRΣΣK Letter Organization, let alone where they were founded. We pay homage to Phi Beta Kappa established in 1781 at William and Mary University. Crazy to think Fraternities and Secret Societies were even established back then.
What I don't get is why do some people in todays society think being GRΣΣK on a college campus is bad? After talking with some local students at my University the first topic that comes to mind when I ask, "What are some Negative Connotations you think of where you here the word GRΣΣK"? The First response I received before even blinking was "Hazing".
What are some of the Negative Connotations you have heard about GRΣΣKs on your College Campus?

Exclusion of others for the greater inclusion of brotherhood.
ReplyDeleteOn the outside it can be intimidating to feel outside that bond that's created, but I think that on the inside it is that inclusion that allows for such a tight bond and that family atmosphere. I am jealous of that!
I hope that they really have helped keep you on track! Can't wait to see where we are when we're finally out of college... Freshmen yeah I would have said 5 years from now, but that's where we are;) lol.
Good shit Mathias!
